Auction Template Instructions
Section 1 – Purchase and Download
1. After you’ve won an item, click on the Pay Now button.
2. Select your shipping address and confirm the payment details.
3. Select PayPal as the payment method to go to the PayPal site.
4. Log in to your PayPal account. If you do not already have a PayPal account, you can sign up for an account.
5. From your PayPal account, review your payment and select how you would like to fund your PayPal payment (for example, using a checking account, credit card, or PayPal balance).
6. Click the Pay button to send the payment. The payment confirmation page opens. When you send the payment, PayPal sends the payment status to eBay, your seller is notified of your payment, and you receive an email receipt for the transaction.
7. Once the Pay button is clicked, the "You Made A Payment" page will appear. In the lower right hand corner of the page is the "Continue to Download" button, click this button (see image below). If you close your browser before downloading the file, use the link in the email that you receive after payment, see next step.
8. As soon as payment is made, an email is sent to your PayPal email account. This email contains a link to download the template (see image below). Click on the link in the email or copy the link into your browser and navigate to the download page. Go to next step.
9. From the email link, you will be directed to the download page (see image below). Go to next step before downloading.
10. PC users: Place your cursor over the download link in the lower right hand corner and right click.
11. Select "Save Link As" or "Save Target As".
12. Once you click "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" you will see a window like the one below. The file name will be entered automatically and changing the name is not required.
- Your browser may have a default download location like your "downloads" folder, if not choose a folder to save your file.
- Remember the location in which you save the file.
- Click Save.
13. Locate the template file. One method is to use Windows Explorer.
- For Windows 95, 98, and ME:
Click the Windows Start button, and then select the Programs button.
Click on Windows Explorer.
- For Windows 2000 and XP:
Click the Windows Start button, and then select the Programs button.
Select the Accessories button.
Click on Windows Explorer.
14. Unzip the template ZIP file. If you use Windows XP, the WinZip extraction utility is installed on your system and can be used in Windows Explorer. If you do not have XP or WinZip, you can download EasyZip, an unzip utility program at
http://www.thefreesite.com/easyzip111.htm. EasyZip is easy to install and use, and it’s free!
- Use Windows Explorer to extract the template file.
- Highlight the template.zip file.
- Right click the file and select "Extract Here" or select "Extract To" and choose a location to put the extracted file.
15. Locate the extracted file, which is a file with an .html extension.
Section 2 – Edit and Customize
1. Using Windows Explorer, right click the template file, select "Open With" and then select "Notepad". If you already have an HTML editor, use that program to open and edit your file. An HTML editor is not needed; the file can be edited with the simple Notepad program.
Once the file is open in Notepad, it should look similar to the image below.
2. Locate the Insert and End notes. They are on the left margin and look like this:
<––Insert xxxx here––>
<––End xxxx––>
Insert your text in between the two notes only. In the image below you will insert the name of your item for auction between the red lines (redlines will not appear in your editor, they were added for illustration).
Continue inserting your text in the editing areas of the file.
3. Once you have inserted all of your text, save your file.
4. Preview your template.
- Open your browser, like Internet Explorer or Firefox for example.
- Find and open your edited template file. You should see something similar to the image below. Notice that our image is missing; we will add our image in the next section.
Section 3 – Add Images
Note: This section will only deal with inserting the link to your image file. Prior to this step, you must have taken your photo, edit the photo if necessary, uploaded your file to your hosting service. There are many hosting services and many are free to use. We use
PhotoBucket at
http://www.photobucket.com/.
1. Locate and copy the URL to your image. Double click the URL and then press Ctrl + c, or right click and select "Copy".
2. Return to the Notepad program and your template file.
3. Insert the URL into the template.
- Place the curser between the 1st photo link notes and paste the link by pressing Ctrl + p.
- Insert as many photos as you need. There are 4 set locations, but more photos can be added by inserting the URLs after the 4th photo.
4. Save your file.
5. Do not close Notepad.
Section 4 – Upload to eBay
Note: This section assumes that you already know how to sell an item on eBay. This section will detail the steps for inserting the template only.
1. Log into eBay, start the selling process. After selecting your category, the second step “Describe Your Item”. Enter you title and sub title (optional).
2. Locate the
Item description * box.
3. Return to Notepad and your template file.
4. Select and copy your HTML code.
- Go to the menu and select Edit then Select All or press Ctrl + a.
- All of your text should be highlighted.
- Copy the text, Edit then Copy or press Ctrl + c.
5. Return to the eBay selling page and the
description * box.
6. Place your cursor in the box and press Ctrl + p or right click and select paste.
7. Your text/code should now be in the box. Select the “Preview description” link (see image below).
8. Review your auction description in the new window.
9. If there is need for change, return to Notepad and edit the file and repeat the steps to insert the template into your eBay description.
10. Close the preview window and select “Continue”.
11. Continue with the eBay listing steps.
12. Preview your listed auction.
